Description
Extremely rare jug of parian porcelain with moulded decoration made by T. J. & J. Mayer in Longport, England. Circa 1850, the body is made to appear as a tree trunk with peeling bark and a handle as a branch. On one side is a boy climbing up to reach a nest with baby birds, and on the other side is a boy sitting on a branch holding a nest on his knees. The bark has been coloured with a light brown slip and the inside is glazed. In excellent, original condition and 8 1/2″ tall.
